Average Math Scores for Fourth and Eighth Grade Girls
Developing future women in technology requires educating the girls of today in math and science. One benchmark used to measure progress in this area comes from the standardized math test scores. In such tests given to fourth grade girls, Georgia scores increased in 2011 to reach par with the national average. Nevertheless, scores in Georgia for 4th grade girls lagged all of the benchmark states except California. The performance of eighth grade girls in Georgia on standardized math tests remained flat when compared to the 2009 results. At the eighth grade level Georgia remained below the national average for 8th grade girls. Within the benchmark states, Massachusetts had the highest math scores for girls at both grade levels and California had the lowest. For both age groups, Georgia had the second lowest math scores among girls tested in the benchmark states.
